After 30 years, a Power Rangers Fan Fic concept I locked away in my head is going to become reality

If I had the means back in 1993, I would’ve written it back then. I didn’t have a computer at home back when I was 9 years old. Also, Windows 95 wasn’t even yet a thing back then either. Despite all that, I have managed to keep the very first Fanfic concept I ever had locked away in my head for 30 years. It wasn’t until I was writing a Power Rangers-related article on another blog that I suddenly recalled it on my 39th birthday ironically. Mind you, it was nothing more than a concept 30 years ago. Now, I can actually turn it into a fleshed out story.

First, here are the concepts I drafted in my head 30 years ago:

  • The title of the story is Power Rangers: Global Force.
  • At some point in the future, many generations of Ranger teams have arisen to counter the forces of evil. After a certain point, it became possible for multiple Ranger teams to exist at the same time such as the Zeo Rangers and the Mystic Rangers. These Ranger teams would sometimes team up to deal with an enemy they can’t handle alone but usually work separately.
  • Ranger teams are not necessarily made up of just teenagers and/or young adults. They can range in age from 10 to 75. As was already demonstrated with Justin in Power Rangers Turbo, the Morphin’ Grid will automatically adjust the height of young (or short) Rangers to match the rest of the Ranger team. In addition, Rangers are altered physically as is demonstrated in the 2017 Power Rangers Movie.
  • Unlike the TV series, their true identities are known to some including the government, their employer or school and loved ones. Active Rangers are tax exempt while Former Rangers get a tax credit. Former Rangers are still able to harness their former powers via the Morphin’ Grid to deal with a sudden situation or if no Active Rangers are available.
  • Unlike the TV series, Rangers are allowed to use their powers to kill other humans if need be. They are not allowed to use their powers for political or personal gain as well as in a conflict or war. It’s more of a guideline than a hard rule, however.

…Yes, I remembered all that from 30 years ago. As I was writing the above, I remembered more details is all.

Here’s some additional information about Power Rangers Global Force:

  • The Power Rangers Foundation (PRF) is the intergalactic organization that oversees all Power Rangers. The Earth Branch is the largest in the universe and currently has the most Ranger Teams at 35. Alpha-30, an A.I. version of Zordon and staff of over 3,000 former Rangers and civilians spread cross the world make up the PRF of Earth. PRF Earth is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan but Zordon and Alpha reside in the Command Center located in Southern California.
  • The original Zordon sacrificed himself via the Z-Wave decades earlier. More recently, Billy Cranston–the original Blue Dino Ranger–created the A.I. version of Zordon after a failed experiment led to the death of Trini Kwan, the original Yellow Dino Ranger. Billy tapped into the Morphin’ Grid and was able to recover the memories and experiences of the original Zordon for the A.I.’s development. Despite being housed in the Command Center in Southern California, Zordon is able to connect to every PRF Earth base on the planet as well as the PRF outposts and bases throughout the universe.
  • Most PRF staff maintain the various Zords for each Ranger team. Many are also tasked with rescue and recovery operations during and after a crisis. Thanks to various patents and donations, PRF Earth is able to cover the costs of property damage after a crisis has been dealt with.
  • Ranger teams are typically assigned to the city or region where they live though in some cases a Ranger team will be made up of people who live in different parts of the world. Most Ranger teams are made up of 5 to 7 Rangers but some have as many as 10 or as few as 3. It’s very rare but somtimes a sole Ranger will be assigned to a region.
  • Being a Power Ranger is not a full-time job and nor is it expected to be. When not working as Power Rangers, for the most part they are ordinary people. They are also mortals and can die in action as well as in ordinary life. “May The Power Protect You” is not simply a sendoff wish of good luck but a prayer of safety.
  • Those who become Power Rangers are imprinted in The Morphin’ Grid forever. This is why even after they retire as active Rangers, they are still able to harness their former powers when needed. “Once a Ranger, always a Ranger”. The Morphin’ Grid also remembers everything someone experienced as a Ranger and that knowledge is passed on to their successors. Zordon and Alpha are also able to access information stored in the Morphin’ Grid.
  • The PRF does have a special elite force referred to as The Morphin’ Knights. Made up of former Rangers themselves, their job is to punish current and former Rangers who break their oaths, abuse their powers or use their powers for evil. They are much more powerful than any Power Ranger or Zord by necessity. Their abilities include being able to de-power and de-summon Zords as well as De-Morph Rangers with little effort. They are also authorized to kill Rangers who have gone rogue as a last resort.  Their main job is to punish and restrain, not be an avenging force. Their intimate knowledge of The Morphin’ Grid is second only to Zordon’s as is their experience as former Rangers. They often utilize their former powers while carrying out their duties as Morphin’ Knights. With a few exceptions, a former Ranger’s status as a Morphin’ Knight is kept a closely guarded secret from active Rangers and other former Rangers.
  • Rangers who become pregnant can still perform their duties during pregnancy but most just step down temporarily. The Morphin’ Grid increases its protection over pregnant Rangers and will automatically teleport them a safe distance away if things get really bad.
  • Rangers are able to pick their own temporary or permanent successor. If a Ranger is stripped of the power or dies suddenly, the Morphin Grid will grant the power to a worthy successor in emergency situations.
  • PRF Earth has a tenuous agreement with the United Nations. In exchange for defending the Earth from outside threats, PRF Earth will not involve itself in conflicts or wars between the nations of the world unless they are or are suspected of being aided by offworlders. Countries acknowledge citizens of their country who become Rangers must prioritize defending the world over conflict involving other countries. World governments are notified when a citizen of their country becomes a Ranger but that information is kept classified from the general public. PRF Earth has agreed to financially compensate countries for property damage caused during skirmishes involving Rangers. PRF Earth also offers compensation to anyone injured during skirmishes and to the families of those killed.
  • The governments of many modernized countries are wary of PRF Earth. They view the intergalactic organization with its super-advanced technology and weapons to be as big a threat as the forces of evil they battle against. They have appealed to the United Nations which has agreed to secretly approve the establishment and development of an Earth-based international defense force capable of defending the world against both PRF Earth and the otherworldly forces they often clash with. It’s rumored some current and former Rangers may also be working with the United Nations on this project.
  • About 200 years ago, Three of the Morphin’ Masters secretly visited Ninjor who created the Dino Power Coins. In exchange for attuning him to the Morphin’ Grid directly, Ninjor gave them several sets of Power Coins which they used to create morphers based on several then future Ranger Teams: Mighty Morphin’, Zeo, Turbo, Space, RPM, Mystic Force, Overdrive, SPD, Dino Fury and Megaforce. The Morphin’ Masters sensed there would come a time in the future when Zordon would no longer be around and wanted some contingencies in place to give the Earth of that future era the means of defending itself. Those sets of Morphers were hidden across the world though two sets were hidden on Mars. To prevent someone with evil intentions from gaining access, only a current or former Ranger could locate them by tapping into the Morphin’ Grid. Ninjor has passed this information on to every Ranger team he has ever mentored but so far, only two sets of these special Morphers have been recovered: The Zeo Morphers and the Megaforce Morphers.

…Whew. Ok, I’d say that’s enough with the world building. That’s quite a lot of background information to say the least. I actually do plan to make each chapter a standalone story on that note though there will be some threads that connect them. It’s sure to be interesting since I plan to make each chapter feel like an episode of the tv show in terms of pacing. As for when I’ll start writing it. I’m hoping to have the first chapter done in early 2024. I plan to post the story here and on AO3. If crowdfunding via Pateon works out, I will include Fanfiction.net. We’ll see. More info on that to come.
